WILLIAM MILLS DIES AT 43
Local Attorney In Ill Health For Year
William E. Mills, 43, of 210 S. Coquillard Dr., a former Board of Zoning Appeals and Area Plan Commission attorney, died at 12:45 a.m. today in his residence after an illness of one year.
Born Jan, 3, 1924, in Indianapolis, he came to South Bend 40 years ago. On June 17, 1944, he married Elaine Moran. She survives along with his mother, Mrs. Edgar Mills of South Bend; two daughters, Miss Sharon Ann, a student at Purdue University, Lafayette, and Miss Roxanne, at home; one son, William E. Jr., at home; and one sister, Mrs. William Angus of Arlington Heights, Ill.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sunnyside Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Chalfant, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial park.
Mills served in the Air Force during World War II and was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School.
Resigned County Posts
He resigned his county posts in January. He is a past president of the St. Joseph County Society for Crippled Children; and an elder and former trustee of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.
Donations may be made to the church, the American Cancer Society, the St. Joseph County Society for Crippled Children.
The name of the law firm to which he belonged is Hammerschmidt, Mills, Bonewitz, and Roberts. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Forest G. Hay & Son Funeral Home.
