Callix "Cal" E. Miller Jr. March 27, 1924 - April 25, 2015 GRANGER - Mr. Miller was born March 27, 1924, in South Bend, to Callix E. and Marguerite Cain (Sweeny) Miller.

On June 25, 1949, he married Theresa Ann Pirchio. He is survived by his wife, and five children: Madeline Gallagher of Glen Ellyn, IL, Callix Edward (Cindee) of Eugene, OR, David (Terri) of Arlington, Texas, John (Paula) of Bedford, Texas, and Thomas of Granger, IN. There are seven grandchildren: Matthew (Erika), Kristen and Laura Gallagher, Corinne (Jason) Dush, Allyson (Chris) Hinton, Jonathan and Kelly Miller. He was a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren.

He attended St. Joseph grade school and South Bend Central High School. Callix graduated with honors in Architectural Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1949.

He served as an executive and consultant for many corporations including International, Minerals and Chemical Corp., Sperry Rand Corp., Associates Corp. of North America, and Clark Equipment Corp. He was a co-holder of 2 patents. In 2000, he was an adjunct professor of Architecture at Notre Dame. He was named to Who's Who in America in 1984.

He served in the U.S. Naval Air Service for two years.

His professional affiliations include: AIE, ASCE Society and AM. Military Engineers. Served on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Boy Scouts and the Alexian Brothers Hospital in Chicago. He belonged to the Elks, the Knights of Columbus and the University Club at Notre Dame. He has been an active member of St. Pius Parish for 30 years. Other active interests include hunting, skeet and trap shooting, photography. He was a 60-year member of the American Contract Bridge League. He was an accredited director and instructor in the ACBL, carrying the rank of Silver Life Master.

A Mass of Christian Burial with Monsignor William Schooler officiating will be held at 1:00 pm with one hour visitation prior to the Mass on Friday, May 1, 2015, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd., Granger, IN. The family is honoring Callix wishes for cremation; the burial of remains will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery in South Bend, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial contributions are made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to The Christ Child Society, 308 S. Scott St., South Bend, IN 46601. Bubb Funeral Chapel assisted the family with the arrangements.
