(August 6, 1924 - May 3, 2009)

Bernice Tolchinsky, age 84, of Michigan City, died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care Center. Services will be held Tuesday, May 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Sinai Temple with Rabbi Reni Dickman officiating. There will be a gathering at the temple on Tuesday, after the burial, from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, IN. Mrs. Tolchinsky was born August 6, 1924 in South Bend, IN to Harry and Ida (Applebaum) Katz, both of whom preceded her in death.

On February 24, 1943 in South Bend, she married Leo Tolchinsky, he preceded her in death on December 24, 1968.

Surviving are her daughters Sheila (Henry) Ito of LaPorte; Caryn (Don) Glossinger of Michigan City, and son Dean (Donna) Tolchinsky of Fall River, MA; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and sisters Naomi Fridovich of Sunrise, FL and Beverly Shapiro of Chicago. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Mrs. Tolchinsky was a member of the research team on the LaPorte County history project, and had also been employed with the Michigan City Public Library as a reference clerk for 20 years.

She was a member of the Sinai Temple Sisterhood.
