Sister Marion Hosinski, a retired educator, counselor and administrator, died Wednesday (April 21, 1999) of infirmities at St. Mary of the Angels Convent in Richmond Heights. She was 74.

Sister Hosinski was born Leona Mae Rose Hosinski in LaPorte, Ind. She joined the order of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary in 1957 
and professed her final vows in 1965. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1949 from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind., a master's degree in 1954 and a doctorate in 1964, both from the University of Notre lame. She was the first lay woman admitted to doctoral studies at the university.

She served in various capacities for 18 years on the faculty of St. Louis University and directed retreats and workshops throughout the United States and abroad. She served as a counselor and spiritual director at St. Benedict Center in Madison, Wis., where she was also a co-founder and co-director of a support program that worked with people with life-threatening and chronic illnesses.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at St. Mary of the Angels Convent, 1100 Bellevue Avenue, Richmond Heights. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the convent chapel. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. There are no immediate survivors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Tribute Fund, 1100 Bellevue Avenue, St. Louis, Mo. 63117-1883.
