Edward G. Dunbar, Jr., 91, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Wellbrooke of South Bend.
Edward was born July 3, 1924 to the late Edward G., Sr. and Ruth (Josephson) Dunbar in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.
On August 10, 1946, he married Elaine Nierzwicki at St.Patrick Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. She passed away on June 10, 2012. . Ed was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gail Meyer; a granddaughter, Emily; and a sister, Eileen Snell.
Ed is survived by two daughters, Chris Dunbar of South Bend, IN; Amy (Ron) Wadsworth of Holland, MI; one son, Geer (Denise) Dunbar of Walkerton, IN; 11 grandchildren: 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy (Dick) Russellburg of Evansville, IN; and one brother, Robert Dunbar, Sr. of South Bend, IN.
Ed was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1949.
Ed was Controller, Vice President of Studebaker Corporation, Vice President of Divestments at Studebaker Worthington, President of Sasco, Inc. and an officer and director of many SWI subsidiaries. He was the last surviving senior executive of Studebaker Corporation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until Noon Friday in the church. Cremation has taken place. A private burial will take place in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park at a later date.
