Paul Robert Davis, 93, of South Bend, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at his residence. Paul was born June 16, 1924 in South Bend to the late Elizabeth (Motts) and Oliver Davis. On May 11, 1946 in South Bend, Paul married Beverly J. (Anderson) who passed away in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Norma Trimmer, and four brothers, Richard, Ted, Marvin, and Donald Davis. Paul is survived by three daughters, Jeanne (Michael) Rhodes of South Bend, Carol Rippey of Flint, Texas, and Gail (William) Poorman of South Bend, four grandchildren, Tracy Rhodes of Las Vegas, NV, Todd (Angel) Rhodes of South Bend, Becky Rippey of Flint, TX, and Andy (Sarah) Poorman of Lafayette, IN, two great- grandchildren, Quinn Rhodes, Jacob Poorman, and baby Poorman, who is due in November. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Paul was a 1942 graduate of South Bend Central High School. Paul entered the U. S. Army in 1943. In 1944 he sailed to England and was stationed at Holmes Chapel, England. In June of 1944 he participated in the invasion of France at Omaha Beach. He was also in the battles at Normandy, Northern France, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, Ardenes and Central Europe. He also served under Gen. Patton’s 3rd Army and earned 5 battle stars in the European Theater of operations. Paul served his country honorably.

Paul had worked as a custom gear cutter at Allied Screw Products for thirty-five years.

Paul was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of St. Joseph County Lodge #45 F&AM, receiving his 50 year Past Master recognition in 2016, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and received the 32nd Degree in 1982. He joined the South Bend Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star in 1966 and served as Worthy Patron five times, and was a member of St. Joseph Chapter # 569 O.E.S. where he received his 50 year pin in 2016. Paul was also a volunteer at Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 23rd, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 51900 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, 46628, with Rev. Todd Lotridge officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 till 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22nd, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
