Bette Cook McKenna
Bette (Cook) McKenna, 90, The Villages, FL passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 only a few short weeks after celebrating her milestone birthday with family and friends.
Bette was born October 4, 1924 in South Bend, Indiana, daughter of the late Carroll A. and Mary (Hand) Cook. Bette was a devoted caregiver to her husband, Eugene, until his passing in 2006 after 63 years of marriage. She lived in Massachusetts, New York, Michigan and Ohio before moving to Watertown, Connecticut 50 years ago. While there, she worked as a sales associate for G. Fox Dept Store, retiring in 1983 to Palm Coast, FL.
For over 25 years, she was a loving member of the new and growing St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. During that time, she dedicated herself to becoming a member of the Lay Carmelites-Third Order until moving to The Villages to be closer to family, sadly leaving her many friends behind. Bette treasured the time she spent with her only brother, Carroll, who recently predeceased her. They had taken several trips together, especially enjoying their visit to the Holy Lands & Rome in 2010 and a cross country trip in 2011, visiting relatives and many landmarks along the way.
Bette leaves a daughter, Carol Stebbins and husband Vin, The Villages, FL and three sons, Mike McKenna and wife Wynne, Heathsville, VA; Don McKenna and wife Gail of KY; and Jim McKenna and his wife Elaine, Hudson, MA. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Tom Stebbins, Michelle Stebbins Maguire, Kathy McKenna Burr, Patrick McKenna, Matthew McKenna, Devon McKenna, David McKenna and nine great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Bette's life will be held at St Elizabeth Ann Seton, 4600 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast, FL on Saturday, November 1st at 11 am, inurnment to follow at the Columbarium adjacent to the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Elizabeth Ann Seton, 4600 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast FL 32164. or charity of your choice in her memory. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast.
