Betty J. (Wood) Berk

At 11:27 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, Betty J. Berk, 71, of Twyckenham Drive, passed away following an illness in the home of her daughter in Granger, Ind. She was born on Dec. 10, 1926, in South Bend, Ind., to John and Cora May (Seal) Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.

She was the vice-president and secretary of Berk Pharmaceuticals. In LaPorte, Ind., she married Robert E. Berk of South Bend on Aug. 14, 1948. He survives.

She is also survived by her three children, Jacqueline (Larry G.) Hans of Granger, Marie "Kate" (Daniel C.) Bergman of South Bend and Thomas E. (Karen L.) Berk of Niles, Mich.; two sisters, Dorthy Humphrey of Warren, Mich., and Rowena Johnson of South Bend; and by ten grandchildren, Heather J. Hans (Royer) Allman, Krista R., Justin R., Ryan C., Jeremi C., Jenna R., Zakari D., Joshua T., Steven J. and Lane H.

The Mass of Christian Burial Rite will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday. Dec. 4, in the Little Flower Catholic Church on Ironwood Road, north of Indiana 23. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, on Edison Road just east of Ironwood Drive, where there will be a wake service at 3:30 p.m. Mrs. Berk had been very active at Little Flower parish, including a special involvement with the clothing center.
