Lucy Irene Robinson (Vellner) - Class Of 1945 VIEW PROFILE

Lucy Irene Robinson (Vellner)

Lucy I. (Robinson) Vellner

February 10, 1927 ~ February 13, 2022 (age 95)

Jesus came to our home today, Sunday, February 13, 2022, took mom’s hand and led her to heaven.  She was diagnosed with terminal cancer last July and spent the last 7 months at our house (Lynne & Rick’s).  We had many laughs and made jokes about all the hard times.  When she couldn’t walk with her walker any longer, she grumpily agreed to use the wheelchair.  I pushed her everywhere in it and she called it her “Cadillac”.

Mom was born in South Bend, Indiana on February 10, 1927, to the late Elmer and Edith (Name) Robinson.  She grew up in the Depression which was a simpler life but also difficult for families.  Growing up on a farm gave her a world of experiences to confront everything.   Mom married Frank Vellner at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church on a beautiful sunny day on August 16,1947 and had 42 memory-filled years together before his passing.  They raised three children: Joseph, Lynne and Thomas.

Mom said she lived a long and good life.  She and Frank had fun traveling with the Good Sam’s Camping Club, went on train trips and flew to Hawaii and Canada.  She was able to see her grandchildren; Stacy (Mike) Nikki, Andrew and Phillip; her great grandchildren; Devin, Aaron, Brendon, Colton, Grayson, Reagan grow-up close to her. Her nieces Pam Perkins and Mary (Tim) Perkins-McNemar and nephews, Michael (Marilyn) Vellner and Steve Vellner added to her surrounding family.

Preceding her in death along with her parents, and husband are her siblings, Melvin, Juanita and Arnold; her niece Patti Hardy and daughter in law, Ginny Vellner.

She was always active with the family in school activities, Girl Scouts, room mother, Layton Center, South Bend Airport Tourist desk, FOP Auxiliary, Cambridge Square Board of Directors, sang in a music group, went to elementary schools to talk about memories and was retired from JC Penny’s.  When talking about all the things she had done, she said if anything needed to be filled in, just add more blah blah.  So here is the fill in Mom, “blah blah blah”.

We are so grateful for all the support and encouragement from The Center for Hospice Care and her nurse, Tina, and aide, Kristi and Chaplain Arlin.

We invite you to a Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 10:00 AM in Saint Michael’s & All Angels Episcopal Church 53720 N. Ironwood Rd., South Bend IN 46635, with the Very Reverend Brian G. Grantz officiating.  A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.  There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, mom’s wish was for memorial contributions to be made to Saint Michael’s & All Angel’s Episcopal Church, 53720 N. Ironwood Rd., South Bend IN 46635 and Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.

Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer Chapel are assisting the family with arrangements.
