William H. Madison, 54, of 740 Patterson, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Medical Center after a two-week illness. He was a salesman for the Oren Van Aman Co. He was born on Aug. 11, 1926, in South Bend and had lived here all his life.

On July 2, 1954, in South Bend, he married Barbara McFarlane, who died on Dec, 19, 1979.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill A. Tracy of Mishawaka; two daughters, Miss Beverlee J. Madison of Indianapolis and Miss Barbara Ann at home: three sons, William H. II and Brian E., both at home, and Bradley J. of South Bend; a brother, Don L. of Sun City, Ariz.; a stepsister, Mrs. Jean Amick of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and a stepbrother, Neil A. Tracy of Denver, Colo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood. Rev. Gerhart Niemeyer, of the Cathedral of St. James, Episcopal, will officiate, along with members of South Bend Elks Lodge 235. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

He was a World War II veteran and a past exalted ruler of South Bend Elks Lodge 235.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cardiac Care Unit of St. Joseph's Medical Center
