Roman J. Kowalski

Roman J. Kowalski, age 72, of New Road, Bremen, Ind., died at 7:10 p.m. Monday in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 6, 1927, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Kowalski, retired in 1983 from Dodge Manufacturing, after 18 years of service.
On April 23, 1949, in South Bend, he married Gloria Popielski, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Marcia (Kevin) Jebelian of North Liberty, and Nancy (Nick) Schrader of South Bend; one son, Kenneth (Joann) Kowalski of Bremen, Ind.; two grandchildren, John Kowalski of Bremen and Ranay (Jeremy) Reed of LaPorte; one great grandson, Damen Jackson of LaPorte; and three sisters, Loretta Martellaro of DeKalb, IL, Pat Hartman of Crystal Falls, Mich., and Geraldine Kajzer of Fairfield, Ohio.
Preceding Mr. Kowalski in death were his parents, Roman and Helen (Jaworski) Kowalski; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Joann.
Family and friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E. Ireland Road, South Bend, where a rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, with burial to follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Kowalski was a member and usher of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lakeville, the Knights of Columbus Council 5521, and the Lakeville Conservation Club.
He was also an Army veteran of World War II. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
