Virginia Mae Hans Erick

Virginia M. Erick, 88, of South Bend, IN passed away at 3:17 AM Monday, August 10, 2015 at Sanctuary at Holy Cross, South Bend. She was born on April 17, 1927 in South Bend, IN to the late Edgar Hans and Clara (Grabowski) Hans Zellner and remained a lifelong resident. On May 29, 1948 in South Bend, IN she married Richard R. Erick, who preceded her in death on April 26, 2002.

Virginia was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, South Bend. She enjoyed working at the Budget Corner with church members as well as participating in making Braille Bibles. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and served as a candy striper with Memorial Hospital.

Virginia loved to travel, especially in Europe. She greatly enjoyed the Theatre, attending plays in New York City and Chicago. Playing Bridge was a favorite pastime.

Virginia is survived by her niece, Cheryl (Ron) Stuckey of Granger; nephews, Bruce (Marcia) Hummel of South Bend and Craig (Madonna) Hummel of Terre Haute; eight great nieces and nephews and 14 great-great nieces and nephews. Her sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Elvin Hummel preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Steven Latzke, pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
