Anna Jo Games (Haslanger)

ANNA J. (GAMES) HASLANGER

Jan. 24, 1927 - July 30, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Anna Josephine "Jo" Haslanger, 82, of South Bend, died at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, in Fountainview Place, Mishawaka, following a brief illness. Mrs. Haslanger was born January 24, 1927, in LaPorte, IN, to the late James Arthur and Nancy (Morris) Games, and had lived most of her life in South Bend and Grand Rapids, MI.

On June 6, 1954, in South Bend, she married George F. Haslanger Jr., who preceded her in death on December 20, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Martin Wiltrakis; two sisters, Ruby Arndt and Jeanie Wester; and two brothers, Lawrence and Donald Games.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy (David) Pittenger of Elkhart, IN, and Linda (Edward) Wiltrakis of Hillsdale, MI; five grandchildren, Karen (David) Rohm, John (Vickie Woods) Crothers and Chad (Lisa) Wiltrakis, Aaron Wiltrakis and Brent (Becky Childers) Wiltrakis; seven great-grandchildren, Gracie, Sophie and Annie Wiltrakis, Katie Crothers, Lauren, Zachary and Taylor Rohm; and a special nephew, Robb Haslanger. Anna Jo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away under the loving care of her family after a brief but valiant struggle with cancer.

She was known as Grandma by her grandchildren who will miss her immensely. She was "Jo" to her friends, who are too numerous to count. Anna Jo was on the Board of Directors and President of the Country Village Association where she ran the daily operations for 16 years. Her phone never stopped ringing. She loved the interaction with the members of the association, and they loved her. She was a member and Deacon of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church where she never hesitated to volunteer for numerous activities.

She graduated from South Bend Central High School and still attended the all-school luncheons every month and enjoyed seeing all of the "kids" she graduated with.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Rodriguez and staff and the Fountainview Nursing Home for all of their compassion. We would also like to thank the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church for their support. If a person's worth and life are measured by the love of family and friends, her life was the fullest that it could possibly have been.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 3rd, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. James Miller officiating. (Due to road construction, please enter the funeral home parking lot from Hickory Road, south off of Brick Road.) Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today, August 2nd, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 S. Francis St., South Bend, IN 46617. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at welshfh@yahoo.com.
