In Memory
Stanley Joseph Zalas
SOUTH BEND - On the morning of September 27, 2017, Stanley Joseph Zalas, 96, went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
His many friends called him Stan and knew his love for being the center of attention. He will now remain forever in the center of a gathering praising God. Stan was a mechanic for South Bend Transit Company and ARCO Engineering and later worked at School City of Mishawaka, and he was known as a hard worker. But he worked even harder at finding the big fish. He surely enjoyed many years at Hog Back Lake pulling in the big bass from the 3rd basin.
The military service Stan gave to his country during World War II was dear to him and earned him a Purple Heart. He recently traveled with his son and grandson on the National Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to be recognized for his sacrifice. Stan loved the Lord and faithfully attended Calvary Temple Church, Grace Community Church, Hillside Missionary Church and most recently supported Radiant Church.
Surviving Stanley are his loving wife of 72 years, Adeline; daughter, Mary Krahulec of Bellevue, Nebraska; son, John (Joyce) Zalas of South Bend; grandchildren, John Krahulec of Virginia and Annie Krahulec of Nebraska; and a great-grandson, Zackary Krahulec.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Hattie Zalas; sister, Evelyn Czajkowski; granddaughter, Alesia Zalas; and son-in-law, Jack Krahulec.
Services to honor Stan will be held later. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to Compassion for Africa (rescuing abandoned children in East Africa), 51105 High Meadows Drive, Granger, IN 46530. www.compassionforafrica.us. Arrangements are under the care of Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, Mishawaka
