Louise Christiana Barts

Former South Bend resident Louise C. Barts, 91, of Muncie, IN, died Thursday morning, October 2nd, in the Waters at Yorktown following an extended illness.
Mrs. Barts was born May 24, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Bertha (Arm-bruster) and Ervin Frederick Purucker, and had lived in South Bend until moving to Muncie in 2000. On November 1, 1947, in South Bend, as Louise C. Purucker, she married Roger B. Barts, who died March 1, 1970.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane L. Barts and Cheryl K. Haas, both of Muncie; her brother, Ervin F. Purucker of Indianapolis, IN; and a niece and two nephews. Mrs. Barts, a graduate of South Bend Central High School, was active in the Chancel Choir and the Sunday School at Zion United Church of Christ. She also served as an officer in the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary. Mrs. Barts was a gifted singer who enjoyed travel, needlework and sampling new foods.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 6th, in the chapel of St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, with Rev. Wendy Bruner of Zion United Church of Church officiating. Burial will follow. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., is handling arrangements.
