Floyd Melser Jr

Floyd Frederick Melser Jr.

Floyd, 91, of Charlotte, Michigan, passed away on March 16, 20l5 at Sparrow Hospital. He was born to Floyd and Helen Melser.

He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy, on March 9, 2005; by his son, Gary; brothers, Harry and John Melser; and sister in laws Mary and Joan Melser.

Dad grew up in South Bend, IN and loved Notre Dame football. He got a job at 15 with Planters Peanuts in South Bend. He worked his way up to manager and was sent to run the Akron, OH store.

He left to serve our country during WWII in the United States Navy aboard the USS Tangier. In 1948 he returned to work for Planters and was sent to the Lansing, MI store. This is where he met our mother, Peggy Coleman. They married in December, 1950.

Our parents bought the business from Planters Peanuts in 1960, which became The Peanut Shop in downtown Lansing. They owned it until dad retired in 1995, at which time his two daughters took over the business. Dad also had a passion for Jim Beam Decanters, Mr. Peanut memorabilia, and in his younger days was very active in the VFW serving as post commander and district commander.

He is survived by his daughters, Glenda (John) Osterhouse and Tammy Melser; grandchildren, Lindi (Rob) McCaleb, Sheri Osterhouse, Ryan, Clint, and Kristie Melser; great grandchildren Audrey, Johnny, Elizabeth, and Alivia; brother, Richard Melser; sister in law, Beatrice; and brother in law, Donald Harrison.

Special thanks to our dad's wonderful neighbors in Charlotte who went above and beyond, looking out for our dad after mom died. Also a big thanks to all the staff at Sparrow in the CCU for their care of our father and the compassion shown to our family.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing, MI.

ln lieu of flowers please send donations to The VFW National Home for Children, Eaton Rapids, MI in memory of Floyd Frederick Melser, Jr.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel.
