Martha Jane (McDonald) Burke Kelly

Martha Jane Kelly, 87, of Venice, died Jan. 15, 2011. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. A private family internment will be at the National Military Cemetery, Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.

She is survived by her husband Dr. Frank Kelly of Venice, Fla.; sister Nancy Newman and husband Jennings of Venice, Fla., and four sons Joseph C. Burke Jr. and wife Gilda of Palm Bay, Fla., John C. Burke and wife Patricia of Reading, Pa., Kevin M. Burke and wife Paula of Richmond, Ind., and James B. Burke and wife Deborah of Fayetteville, Pa.; a daughter-in-law Jeanette Archbold of Corryton, Tenn.; six grandchildren Michael Burke and Caroline Holt and husband Eric of Corryton, Tenn., Elizabeth Burke and Stefan Burke of Indianapolis, Ind., Katherine Best and husband James of Thurmont, Md., and Samantha Burke of Fayetteville, Pa., as well as two great-grandchildren Cameron and Aidan Holt of Corryton, Tenn., and a step-great-grandchild Kayleigh Best of Thurmont, Md.

Born in South Bend, Ind., she was the daughter of the late George W. McDonald and Wilma E. Austin. She graduated from South Bend Central High School in South Bend, Ind. and served in the U.S. Navy WAVES program during WWII. Throughout her life she was an avid genealogist and served in numerous civic, charitable, and historic organizations.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph C. Burke of Girardville, Pa., and a sister, Margaret A. Culp of Kalamazoo, Mich.
