SOUTH BEND - Herman J. Krizmanich, 87, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in his home. Herman was born on February 23, 1922, in South Bend, IN, to Ferdinand "Fred" and Agnes (Kuzmich) Krizmanich, and was a lifelong resident. He retired from Miles in Elkhart, IN, and was employed with the former Studebaker Corporation.

On September 18, 1948, he married Betty Linehan, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Sue Krizmanich of South Bend, IN, Theresa (Thomas) Hofmann of Medford, WI, and Mary (David) Moon of South Bend, IN; four sons, Thomas (Marty) Krizmanich of Warsaw, IN, Bob (Daphne) Krizmanich of Lakeville, IN, Rick (Dianne) Krizmanich of Valparaiso, IN, and Mike Krizmanich of Nashua, NH; 20 grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Gulvas, Tommy (Sandy) Krizmanich, Matt Krizmanich, Megan Krizmanich, Mark Krizmanich, Aaron (Melissa) Krizmanich, Susie Krizmanich, Cindy Krizmanich, Tom Hofmann Jr., Christine (Matt) Thill, Marie Hofmann, Stephanie Krizmanich, Karley Krizmanich, Adam Krizmanich, Kerstin Krizmanich, Tina Dado, Zach Moon, Sam Moon, Jake Moon and Olivia Moon; four great-grandchildren, Brendon Krizmanich, Carter Krizmanich, Isabelle Krizmanich and Monica Thill; one brother, John (Virginia) Krizmanich of Bradenton, FL; and two sisters-in-law, Vickie Krizmanich of South Bend, IN, and Rosemary (Bill) Nelson of Morganton, NC.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Sarah Krizmanich and Taylor Moon; two sisters, Gizella Rupchuck and Elizabeth Gartee; and three brothers, Fred Krizmanich, Fr. Germain Krizmanich and Steve Krizmanich.

Herman was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and served in the Army Air Corps from June 3, 1942 - December 29, 1945. He was an airplane armorer gunner operating a turret gun. He served 12 months as a gunner, 10 of which were spent in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He loved his Catholic faith and attended Mass daily. He was prayerful, hardworking, and a dedicated family man. Herman was very proud of his family and a loving husband. Herman and Betty were happily married for over 60 years. He loved being a grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Herman was an avid fisherman and loved the University of Notre Dame attending many football and basketball games. Herman lived on Ivy Road for 48 years and looked forward to the fall festivities when many people came to park on his lawn for Notre Dame football games.
