Irene Josephine (Kolanda) Wesolek

SOUTH BEND - Irene Josephine Wesolek, 94, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 3:44 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2016, in Creekside Village, Mishawaka, Indiana. Irene was born on March 14, 1922, in South Bend, to Frank and Josephine (Buczkowski) Kolanda; she was a lifelong resident. She had been employed with Wilson Brothers Shirt Factory for 15 years.

On June 23, 1951, in St. Stanislaus Church, she wed Edward T. Wesolek, her husband and lifelong friend, who preceded her in death on March 23, 2006. Her six sisters and brother have been awaiting her to join them: Helen and Elizabeth Kolanda, Frances Brown, Marie White, Bernice Staszewski, Loretta Janowiak and Joseph Kolanda.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2016, in Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Monday in the church, where a Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m.

Irene proudly served her country as a W.W. II Navy Veteran. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Altar and Rosary Society and Harvest House. Irene enjoyed gardening, bowling, sports and family. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and University of Notre Dame Women's Basketball fan. She was a Nanny for many of her friends and family. Memorial contributions may be donated to Holy Cross School Athletic Association. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
