Richard C. Janowiak, 84, of Hawthorne Drive, South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:50 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2007 in St. Paul�s Retirement Community.

Richard was born on January 30, 1923 in South Bend, IN to Stanley and Hattie (Wozny) Janowiak. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was employed for 24 years.

In September 1947, in South Bend, IN, he married Louise E. Leszczynski, who preceded him in death on April 14, 1995. Also preceding him in death were a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Evelyn Janowiak; a brother-in-law, Chester Gadacz; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Leszczynski.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith (Martin) Butler of South Bend, IN and Jo Ann (Bruce) Stanley of Mishawaka, IN; four grandchildren, Ann Marie (Karl) Kloc of Fishers, IN, Scott Butler of Lafayette, IN, Jennifer (Richard) Beam of Portage, MI, and Richard (Stephenie) Stanley of Grand Haven, MI; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Walker, Evan Kloc, Justin Tummel, Grace Beam, and Brandon, Sarah, and Nicole Stanley; two step great-granddaughters, Britany and Katie Beam; two brothers, Robert (Helen) Janowiak of South Bend, IN and Leonard Johns of Sunrise, FL; three sisters-in-law, Lucy (Sal) Gadacz, Evelyn Gadacz, and Marie (Walter) Stefaniak; and three brothers-in-law, Frank Leszczynski, John (Rita) Leszczynski, and Stanley (Claudette) Leszczynski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 12, 2007 in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Private burial will take place. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m., Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.

Richard was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Parish and the National Association of Retired Postal Workers. He was a W.W. II Army Aircorps Veteran. Richard was an avid Cubs fan and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
