SAN MARCOS - Benjamin H. Huff Jr., 76, died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at his home. Born July 13, 1923, in South Bend, Ind., he lived in San Marcos for 12 years. He was an industrial engineer with the Ford Motor Company in Louisville, Ky., before retiring in 1983. He also worked for Studebaker's for 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II and was past commander of the Highland American Legion Post 201 in Louisville. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was the founding president of the Optimist Little League in South Bend. He was a former member and newsletter editor of the Esocndido Noon Optimists.

Mr. Huff was preceded in death by his sister, Loretta Nowell, in 1965.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Huff of San Marcos; son Michael Huff of Louisville; daughter Debi Huff of San Marcos; sister Sarah Catinella of Fish Lake, Ind.; grandchildren Nicolle of Bowling Green, Ky., and Matthew and Mitchell of Louisville; and nephews Fred Foster of Escondido and Larry Nowell of Kona, Hawaii.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Grace Episcopal Church in San Marcos. The family requests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025. North County Cremations is handling arrangements
