Richard Mortimer Hollister

age 93, of Janesville, WI, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Sun Valley Terrace, Beloit. He was born in South Bend, IN on Oct. 29, 1923, the son of Frank and Florence (Swank) Hollister. He was a B-17 Pilot in the 351st Bomb Group during WWII and was stationed out of Polebrook, England. After the war he flew a number of missions ferrying French POW's back to Paris. Richard met Janet Wanda Needham of Lafayette, IN after the war, and they were married in Terre Haute, IN on March 28, 1947. He loved flying and returned to the Air Force making it his career. He was stationed in many places across the United States, and also in Korea from 1956 to 1957. He retired from the Air Force in 1964, and moved to Janesville where he was employed a various places as an Engineer, until he retired again.

His hobbies were woodworking projects, like building cabinets for the basement and boxes of all sizes and uses, quilting, gardening, and whatever his wife enjoyed. Richard and Janet became snowbirds for several years going back and forth to a second home in Florida and for a time traveling the winter months south in a motorhome.

Richard lost his wife, Janet of 69 years, 7 weeks ago on Dec. 17, 2016. They are together now looking down from above on their 2 daughters, Jean Ann Evert of Beloit, and Susan (Joseph) Dickinson of Arlington, WA; 4 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 2 sisters; and a brother.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory. A visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Home.
