Dr James Thomas Eastman

ELKHART -- Dr. James T. Eastman, 80, of 1606 Pine Ridge Court, died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday (July 18, 2004) at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Nov. 10, 1923, in South Bend to Arthur A. and Lydia (Dittmann) Eastman. On July 17, 1948, he married Daisy L. Lovejoy.

She survives, along with three daughters, Gail A. Eastman of Elkhart, Jan L. (James A.) Mellott of Bristol and Patricia (Alan) Handler of Highland Park, Ill.; two sons, Tom Eastman of Elkhart and Bill (Jeanie) Eastman of Pinehurst, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Dr. Eastman was a pediatric dentist for 38 years in Elkhart. An avid swimmer and golfer, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge No. 425, Lions Club, Elcona Country Club and was president of the A.D.E.C. board of directors. He was past president of the Elkhart Dental Society and the Indiana State Pediatric Dentistry Society.

He was a graduate of South Bend Central High School, Indiana University and Loyola University Dental School. A midshipman in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he also served as a dentist in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
