Carolyn (Davies) Cairns Hammerschmidt

June 15, 1923 – April 4, 2010

SOUTH BEND — Mom grew up in South Bend and returned to her home town years later when she married Bruce Hammerschmidt, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters Carolyn (Tudy) and Mary Cairns of Seattle, and Cindy Cairns of Ann Arbor; grandchildren Jesse Tapp, Kyle and Carrie Bunting, and Colin and Ben Miller; great grandchildren Natalie Bunting and soon to be born Nathan Bunting.

Mom was strong and loving. She gave us stability during the roller coaster of our childhoods. She was also fun-loving and loved a party, especially if she didn’t have to cook. She said the part of aging she hated most was that she couldn’t drink martinis like she used to. Here’s to you Mama.
