Howard O. Carr, age 91, passed away peacefully May 9, 2015 at Emeritus at Arborwood in Granger, Indiana. Howard was born on July 23, 1923 to the late Hobart and Dorothy Carr in South Bend, Indiana.

On June 5, 1956 he married Gloria F. Nowicki who preceded him in death in 2014.

Howard was the oldest of five children, all of whom preceded him in death: Eileen Andreae, Robert, Donald and Phyllis Carr.

Survivors include nephews, James, Jay and Gary (Nancy) Carr of Indianapolis, Robert of Mishawaka and John (Jeanette) Andreae of Granger, Indiana and nieces, Katherine Carr of Mishawaka, Diana (Arthur) Zakrowski and Lori Balmer (Ron) of Granger and Gina (Ken) Jones of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and many special lifelong friends.

Howard served for 3 years in a combat engineer battalion in the United States Army. His unit valiantly fought its way across France and Germany until Germany surrendered. He earned a number of medals and ribbons from the European Theatre. He graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Mathematics. He worked at Honeywell (Bendix) for 30 years as a computer programmer, managing the computer engineering division. He was a member of the Bendix Retirees Club and a charter member of the South Bend Table Tennis Club. Howard enjoyed playing tennis, chess, badminton, sailing on Lake Michigan and crunching numbers. For several years he worked as a volunteer tax preparer through the AARP and a math tutor for Ivy Tech. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care along with the wonderful and caring staff at Emeritus at Arborwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care of South Bend, Indiana. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 13th from 11:00 until 1:00 pm in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. A service celebrating Howard's life will be held at 1:00 pm in the funeral chapel with Rev. Ervin Mize officiating. A private family graveside service will be held shortly after the service.
