Byron Vaughn Boggs

Byron Vaughn Boggs of Grand Junction, CO, died June 13, 2011.

He was born May 7, 1923 in South Bend, IN, to Allen Claude and Alice Boggs.

He graduated from Purdue University after serving in the Army during WWII as a member of Battery B 285th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a survivor of the Malmedy Massacre in Belgium during the 1944 Battle of the Bulge.

He was married nearly 60 years to wife, Donna, who predeceased him in 2009.

After college he was employed by Studebaker, then by Travelers Insurance Company for over 30 years. His career at Travelers took Byron and his family from Indiana to Missouri, New Mexico, and finally Colorado.

Byron was a lifelong bridge player and was an avid cyclist, beginning at age 69. Rides took him all over the United States, one in Europe, and six "Ride the Rockies" in Colorado of which he was most proud.

Byron is survived by two children: daughter, Deborah (Wayne) Rouse, of Mt. Laurel, NJ; son, Allen (Patricia) Boggs, of Leesburg, VA; four grandchildren, Amy O'Rourke, of Lakewood, CO, Andrea Tursini, of Cambridge, VT, Sarah Boggs, of Keller, TX, and Nathan Boggs, of Bethesda, MD; one stepgrandson, Nikolaus Ruby, of Harpers Ferry, WV; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, CO.
