John W Gentry

John W. Gentry, 90, of Sun City Center, FL, formerly of South Bend, IN passed away on July 17, 2013. He was born on March 15, 1923 in South Bend, IN to John W. and Lenna (Smith) Gentry. On January 16, 1943 in South Bend, IN he was united in marriage to the former Margaret "Nan" McIndoe.

John graduated from Central High School, South Bend. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army for three years. He worked for sixteen years at Studebaker in the pipefitter program and in 1964 joined Jordan Ford Motor Company in Wayne, MI where he worked in the maintenance department, retiring after twenty-one years as a senior process engineer. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #235, St. Joseph Lodge #45, F.& A.M. and South Bend Turners. He was a former member of the Southlawn United Methodist Church in South Bend. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going to baseball games, traveling and cruises.

John is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Margaret "Nan" Gentry; sister, Mary (Mike) Darbin of Coffeyville, KS; sons, Jim (Joan) Gentry of Lithia, FL, Scott (Jackie) Gentry of Garden City, MI and Doug (Sue) Gentry of Yukon, OK; nine grandchildren, Todd Gentry, Jennifer Alloy, Scotty Gentry, April Demarest, Melissa Gentry, Tamara Gentry, John Andrew Gentry, Mary Kate Gentry and William Gentry; twelve great grandchildren, Jaidon and Austin Alloy, Julie, Ian and Brittany Gentry, Brian and Andrea Tyson, Abby Adams, Noah Cameron, Hunter Adams, Zac Cameron, Caleb Sauer and sister-in-law, Donna McIndoe of Niles, MI.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN. Military graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
