Erwin Schafer Hoffer

Longtime Ridgecrest resident Erwin Schafer Hoffer passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. He was 87.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. in the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Lamb of First Baptist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be at Riverside National Cemetery.

Erwin was born Aug. 21, 1922. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He earned his bachelor's degree at Purdue University and his master's at the University of Maryland. He moved from Corona to Ridgecrest in 1969 and worked as an electrical engineer at China Lake for close to 40 years. Erwin loved to travel and loved the ocean.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Hoffer of California; son, Richard and wife, Wendy of Texas; daughter, Christine and husband, Freelin of Oregon; and six grandchildren.
