John E. Hay, Jr.

April 8, 1919 - July 6, 1996

SOUTH BEND - John E. Hay, Jr., 77, of East Madison Street, died at 5:22 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at St. Joseph's Medic a Center, after a brief illness. Mr. Hay was currently employed by: Midwest Distributing Company and retired in 1984, from Interstate Motor Freight. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 364, and a Veteran of World War II.

Mr. Hay was born to John E. and Alma N. Hay on April 8, 1919, in South Bend. He was a lifelong resident of South Bend and wintered in Clearwater, Fla. in retirement.

On Sept. 22, 1951, he married the former Ruth L. Murphy, who survives with one son, Brian J. of Benton Harbor, Mich. and two daughters, Ruthann Kidd of Cleveland, Ohio and Lynda Catanzarite of Mishawaka, Ind. Also surviving is one sister, Lucinda E. Hay of Clearwater, Fla. Mr. Hay also had two sisters, Irma M. Hay and Hazel M. Hay who preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Hickey Funeral Homes, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend. Wake ser vices will be 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 9, at 10 a.m. in Hickey Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
