MARY A. (GEISSLER) ZGODZINSKI

SOUTH BEND - Mary Ann Zgodzinski, 88, passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, May 31, 2010, in the Inwood Hills Estates assisted living facility after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mary Ann was born on February 6, 1922, in South Bend, to the late George and Mary Geissler. On October 9, 1948, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Francis "Bud" Zgodzinski, who preceded her in death on September 4, 2003.

She graduated from Central High School in 1940 and then attended the Thomas Commercial School.

Her first position was the savings and loan association; there she pursued a career in the mortgage department for 44 years until she retired in February 1987. Mary Ann was a very dear and sweet lady, and will be remembered for her great sense of humor and her gift of gab. When she was a young lady, she won a contest for the best looking legs and enjoyed telling the story to anyone who would listen. She was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to music, going out to dinner with her friends, wearing red lipstick and reminiscing about the past. It was Mary Ann's wish to remember the Hospice staff that made her final days comfortable and the dedicated staff at Ironwood Hills of whom she was very fond.

A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road, where family and friends may gather one hour prior. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
