SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Helen Norma Madaras Huffmaster passed away at 10:55 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Helen was born on January 6, 1922, in Laporte, Indiana, to Clarence and Elsie Brayton. She lived in several places including Indiana, Arizona, Ohio, Tennessee, Minnesota, Michigan, California and Utah.
She married Harold “Gene” Madaras on July 21, 1944, in Flagstaff, Arizona, and lived with him until his death in 1974. She married Robert Huffmaster on February 14, 1982, in Garden Grove, California, who preceded her in death on April 21, 1984.
Helen held several jobs during her lifetime including a hostess for the Welcome Wagon, a secretary in the restaurant industry, employer counselor and administrative assistant in the hospital industry. Her years spent at Kleen-Lean led to her lifelong love of collecting pigs. She really enjoyed her family, sewing and volunteering at the Cottonwood Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Clarence and Elsie Brayton; husbands, Gene Madaras and Robert Huffmaster; brothers, Wayne and Donald Brayton; and sister-in-law, Donna Brayton.
Surviving her are her three children, Terry (Virginia) Madaras of Traverse City, MI, Cheryl Daum of Stanwood, MI, and Vicki (Robert) Curry of Massanutten, VA; grandsons, Erich-Adolf (Jodi) Daum of Big Rapids, MI, Karl Daum of Cedar Springs, MI, Hans (Kathy) Daum of Sand Lake, MI; granddaughter, Arica Curry of Salt Lake City, UT; and grandson, Christian Curry of Lone Jack, MO. Great grandchildren, Garret Daum, Kirk Daum and Emma Daum of Big Rapids, MI, and Karsten Daum of Sand Lake, MI. Helen is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joan Brayton of Bristol, IN, and nephews, Dennis (Judy) Brayton, Dean Brayton, Russell (Toni) Brayton and Robert (Pamala) Brayton.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Funeral services will follow at noon at the Palmer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
