SOUTH BEND — Marilyn J. Lippincott, 76, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born on December 16, 1935, to the late George M. and Ethel (Miller) Sherwood in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Rolland Duane Sherwood; daughter-in-law, Brenda M. Lippincott; and “Aunt,” Alex Gouletas.

Marilyn was retired from the former Robertson’s Department Store in South Bend, IN, where she worked as a gift wrapper and sales clerk for many years.

On June 26, 1955, as Marilyn J. Sherwood, she married Joseph I. Lippincott at Trinity Methodist Church in South Bend, IN. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Joseph I. Lippincott of South Bend, IN; four sons, Gary Lippincott of South Bend, IN, Duane Lippincott of South Bend, IN, David (Tina) Lippincott of Mishawaka, IN, and Mark Lippincott of South Bend, IN; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandsons; two sisters, Vivian Birky of South Bend, IN, and Joyce (John) Longenecker of Centreville, VA; three brothers, George (Eunice) Sherwood of Mishawaka, IN, Richard (Barbara) Sherwood of Leesburg, VA, and Gary (Nancy) Sherwood of South Bend, IN; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Marilyn was a member of Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church. She loved cooking, canning fruits, vegetables, jelly, and various juices, and also enjoyed spending time with young children, especially her grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. today, July 22, 2012, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, and from 10-11 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2012, at Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, 24535 Roosevelt Road, South Bend, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012, in Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ernie Troxel officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
