William J. Essig, 83, of Evanston and North Chicago, passed away on September 29, 2021. Bill was born in South Bend, Indiana, and graduated from South Bend Central High School, Yale University, and the University of Chicago Law School. He was a proud Army veteran who was a graduate of the Army Language School. Bill practiced law in Chicago and then worked for many years at the Illinois Student Assistance Commission before retirement. Bill is survived by his sons, William V. (Karen) Essig and Peter F. Essig, and his grandsons Michael and Christopher Essig, and his nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Grace Essig, and his siblings, Roland Essig and Gretchen Francis. A family memorial service and military burial was held at the Fort Sheridan National Cemetery.
