David Allen Johnson

SOUTH BEND — David Allen Johnson, 55, died in his sleep on Monday morning, June 11, in his home in South Bend. David was born on October 15, 1951, to Emma and Freeman Johnson.He was the fifth of eight children (six boys and two girls). David graduated from South Bend Central in 1970, and was blessed with his eldest son, David L., shortly after graduation.He later married his high school sweetheart, Doris Span, and had two sons, Brandon and Jamin, both of Houston, Texas. His family had resided in Houston most of their lives.

After attending school to become a dental lab technician, David returned to South Bend and assisted in establishing Johnson Dental Lab with his brother Melvin.Together they worked with their oldest brother, Freeman Jr. David is survived by his three sons, David of Indianapolis, Brandon (Pricilla) and Jamin of Houston, TX;his mother, Emma Johnson Cranford; four brothers, Freeman Jr., Raymond (Patricia), Melvin (Linda) and Minister Kenneth (Jamie);two sisters, Sharon McLeod (Paul) of South Bend and Tina Sheffield of Hamden, Connecticut;and a sister-in- law, Catherine of South Bend.

His father, Freeman, wife, Doris, and brother, Richard, preceded him in death.

David was the proud grandfather of two granddaughters, Morgan and Jaycey.“ Great Uncle David ,”as he insisted all of his 14 great-nieces and nephews to call him, brought him such joy.He was the favorite uncle to 24 nieces and nephews, and they will miss his jokes. David was an avid bowler and loved the solitude of fishing and the beauty of nature. David was a sensitive and kind person.He will truly be missed by his family and loved ones.

The viewing will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.in the Clark-O’Neal Funeral Home. Services will be at noon on Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Greater St.John’s Missionary Baptist Church, with calling one hour before services. The Clark-O’Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements
