Baxter Leroy Hughes
June 18, 1950 – July 10, 2004
Baxter Leroy Hughes, 54, a lifetime area resident of South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness at 5:31 a.m.Saturday, July 10, in Hospice House of St.Joseph County. Baxter was born to the union of the late Robert E.and Mozell (Underwood) Hughes in South Bend on June 18, 1950. He was a 21-year employee of Wheel Horse Products and a member of the South Bend Pool League.
In South Bend, on Dec.20, 1976, Baxter and Patricia Belcher were married. A loving family is left to cherish his memory:his wife, Patricia;two daughters, Yolanda Hughes of South Bend and Wonie Hughes of Indianapolis, Ind.;a son, Demarcus Verse of Indianapolis; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four sisters, Betty Tidwell, Barbara Williams and Brenda Williams, all of South Bend, and Bonnie Hughes of Pensacola, Fla.;a brother, Basil (Lynn) Hughes of South Bend; sisters-in-law, Reverend Wonie Johnson, Addie Briggs and Johnnie Miller of South Bend, and Elaine Belcher of Washington, D.C.;brothers-in- law, Roger Belcher and Ted Belcher, both of Indianapolis, Reverend Sam Rozier of Dublin, Ga., and Dennis Belcher of Fort Wayne, Ind.; along with other relatives and friends.
Family members who preceded him in death along with his parents were two brothers, Billy “Bang” Hughes and Bobbie Hughes. Services for Mr.Hughes will be held at noon Friday in Faith Apostolic Church, with Pastor Eddie Miller officiating.Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.Friends may call one hour prior to the services in the church.
