Frank Eugene Nyikos

Frank E. Nyikos, 83, residing in Goshen and formerly of Syracuse, IN, passed away at 7:54 am Monday, October 19, 2015 at The Maples at Waterford Crossing in Goshen. He was born June 13, 1932 in South Bend to the late John K. and Margaret (Retek) Nyikos. Frank moved to the Syracuse area in 1955 and remained a resident there until seven months ago, when he moved to Goshen.
Frank served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Frank was a member of the VFW #1342 in Syracuse, American Legion #223 in Syracuse, Cromwell Lodge #705, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne as well as a longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous in Elkhart.
Frank is survived by his children, Frank E. Nyikos, Jr. of Bloomington, IN, Catherine A. Shankster of Cromwell, Mary M. Lowrey of Clunette, IN, Jean L. Tarner of Milford, IN and Stephen K. Nyikos of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Margaret Smith of Naples, FL, Lillian Buti and Anita Bedford, both of South Bend, Alice May Miller of Ft. Wayne, IN and John K. Nyikos, Jr. of Goshen; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Frank will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 23, 2015 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Rev. Kevin Baughman will officiate. Military graveside services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Friday in the funeral home prior to services.
Memorial contributions may be donated to the charity of the donor’s choice.
