Melvin Richard Houck passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 due to complications with cancer.

He was the husband of the late Joann Borkowski Houck, the mother of their five children, David Houck (Darlene) of Columbia, Ken Houck (Ruby) of West Chester, OH, Susan Wagner (John) of Newark, OH, Daniel Houck (Sharon) of Greenville, and Michael Houck (Kristin) of Fountain Inn. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was presently married to and survived by Jean Fenish Houck since March 20, 2010. He is survived by her children, Kelly Fenish of Greenville, and Kerry McLaughlin (Patrick) of Canton, GA; and three grandchildren.

Mel graduated from South Bend Central High School in January 1950, worked for Studebakers, went into the U.S. Navy in February 1951, and married Joann in 1952. He retired from the U.S. Navy in July 1973 as a Senior Chief and then graduated from Bob Jones University with a BS in Education and taught electronics at Greenville Technical College. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mauldin.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Mauldin with entombment to follow in Graceland East Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Cannon Funeral Home-Jones Chapel in Simpsonville.
