Charles "Chuck" O. Dome

July 23, 1931 ~ January 02, 2026 (age 94)

Charles Dome 94, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Cousin went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 02, 2026. after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family and blanketed in love as he passed away.

Chuck was born at home in South Bend in 1931.  He lived in the Mishawaka-South Bend area most of his life. He was a 1950 graduate of Central High School.  Chuck served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956.  While he was stationed in Tucson, AZ he met the love of his life, Marita Loring, at an Air Force dance.  It was love at first sight and they never left the dance floor all night.  Chuck and Marita were married on September 26, 1953, and celebrated 68 years together. They remained a great “dance team” all their married life.

They moved to Mishawaka where they raised their 4 children:  Charie (George) Sneddon of Greenville, SC., Jeffrey (Diana) Dome of Mishawaka, Debbie (David) Fox of Mishawaka and Mary Sassaman of Elkhart.

Chuck was very active his entire life and had a memory that never quit.  Along with his service in the Air Force he worked at Dodge Manufacturing for 45 years.  Chuck was a lifetime member of the BK Club and was also very active with the BK Club Fastpitch Softball team.  He also played slow pitch and in later years umpired slow pitch games.   He was President of the BK Club from 1969-1971 & 1979 earning the highest honor The Order of Leopold II Award.   In 1979 Chuck transferred to Greenville, SC to continue his career at Reliance (Dodge).

Upon retiring from Reliance, they moved to Weslaco, TX to be near his sister.  Whether they lived in Mishawaka, Greenville or Weslaco he made great lifelong friends.  They were always hosting a party just because!  He enjoyed life to the fullest. Chuck was a Chicago White Sox fan and a lifelong IU fan whether it was football or basketball. He was able to watch his Hoosiers win the Rose Bowl game with his family in the hospital.

In 2020 they moved back to Mishawaka so that they could be close to their children and grandchildren.  They loved attending their ball games, recitals, going out to eat and loved going to the shows at the Round Barn theater.

Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Marita in 2022, his sister, Anna Sondergard and her husband Richard, his brother and sister-in-law, John and Clara Loring.  Along with 2 sons-in-law, Mike Freeman and Mike Sassaman and a grandson, Ryan Spyker.
