Janice Marie Stellner (Roden)

Janice Marie (Stellner) Roden

March 23, 1934 ~ August 20, 2021 (age 87)

Janice Marie Roden, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 3:47 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Janice was born in South Bend, IN, on March 23, 1934 to the late Russell and Mabel Stellner. She lived in and served her beloved South Bend community for her entire life. Janice was married on August 21, 1954, to her late husband, Robert J.A. Roden, with whom she shared 54 wonderful years together. She left us on August 20th, just in time to celebrate the first of her “heavenly anniversaries” with Robert on August 21st.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert; newborn son, Robert; and sisters, Gloria Jean and Virginia Lee. Surviving are three daughters, Bethanne (Richard) George of Hinsdale, IL; Kimber (Rick) Green of Palatine, IL; and Julie (David) Deahl of Granger, IN; son, John (Ginger) of Bartlett, IL; grandchildren, Jonathan (Mallory) Green, Kathryn (Karl) Swedlund, Jennifer (Dan) Green, Jack, Joe and Jake Deahl; great-grandchildren, Robert, Charles and Oliver; sister, Mary Jo Cebrat of Hollywood, FL; and many loving nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Janice graduated from South Bend Central High School and very actively participated in community volunteer activities and committees through the years, including Hope Rescue Mission and Trinity Lutheran Church Outreach. She was an avid bird lover/watcher, reader, Bible study participant, bridge club player, jigsaw puzzle aficionado and Notre Dame fan extraordinaire. Jan’s greatest passion was reserved for her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will all miss our grand matriarch but know she has found peace in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Our heartfelt thanks to so many very special people that took such great care of our mother: Sandi and Senior 1 Home Care; Wellbrooke, and their dedicated nurses and staff, especially Bo and Amy, whose unwavering support of mom challenged her to become stronger; and the teams of physicians and nurses at Memorial – Beacon Health System and Heart to Heart Hospice were so kind, professional and devoted to mom’s care and support.  Thank you!

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Homes-Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Private interment will take place at Highland Cemetery in South Bend.

In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests that donations in Janice’s memory be made to Hope Ministries, 432 S. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, IN 46601 or online at www.hopesb.org.
