SOUTH BEND - Wilma J. Ford, 80, of South Bend, Indiana, departed this life on Monday, September 29, 2014. She was born February 17, 1934, in Mound City, Illinois, to the union of Jesse (Kindred) Evans and James H. Evans.

Wilma received her formal education through the South Bend Community Schools, graduating from South Bend Central High School and later attending Indiana University at South Bend. She was employed by the South Bend Community School Corporation for more than 17 years. She was also a Teacher at Harrison Primary Center in Phoenix, Arizona, for more than 27 years. She was a member of Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church. Wilma loved to travel and dance. Being a creative person she played piano and also had a flare for decorating.

She united in holy matrimony to Robert L. Ford in June of 1953 and to their union three sons were born. Her memories will be cherished by her children: Terry L. (Evette) Ford, Kerry L. Ford and Michael (Bonnie) Ford; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Ola Williams of South Bend, Indiana, and Kathryn Peterson of Gary, Indiana; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who will miss her.

We extend our thanks to the staff of Center for Hospice Care for their professional service and care; and also to 2 very special friends: Earlene Chatman and Mae Vasser, who have been a blessing to us from the very beginning and during the last days of our loved one. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and James H. Evans; and a great-granddaughter, Destiny Ford.

Services for Wilma J. Ford will be held on Friday, October 3, 2014, at Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church, 601 W. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and funeral service at 12 noon.
