James (Jim) Arthur Engdahl

SOUTH BEND - James (Jim) Arthur Engdahl, 86, of South Bend, IN went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Treasure Coast Hospice, Stuart, FL.

He was born in South Bend, IN on February 22, 1932, to Arthur and Jeanette (Crouse) Engdahl. He lived in the South Bend area his whole life and in the last 17 years he and his wife Jolene spent winters in Stuart, FL.

He graduated from Muessel Grade School, Central High School, and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (ND). While he attended ND and after college, he worked for Bendix (Honeywell) for 45 years as a Project Engineer & Computer Engineer for Fuel Engine Controls for jet engines.

He was very intelligent and had a great sense of humor. His passion was golfing! He golfed in golf leagues with friends, family, and his wife Jolene. He enjoyed yard work, traveling, and being with family. When his children were young he loved family vacations to Crystal Lake in Beulah, MI.

For two years he served in the United States Army in the early 1950s during the Korean conflict.

On February 10, 1962 he married Joyce Marie Kroll and had four children, Sandy (George) Village of Sherrills Ford, NC, Ken (Jennie) Engdahl of Mishawaka, Pam (Bob) LaManna of Stevensville, MI, and Mark (Diana) Engdahl of Granger; grandchildren: Hayden, Paige, Payton (Ken), Josie, and Matthew (Mark); step-grandchildren, Emily (Corbin), Rachel, and Grace (Pam); and step-great-granddaughter, Remington (Pam).

On May 7, 1994 he married Jolene Martz and has 3 stepchildren, Shelly (Todd) Graverson of Bremen, Kirk (Laurie) Martz of Bremen, and Ryan Martz of Mishawaka; step-grandchildren, Samantha (Brad) Willsey, Tricia, Shayna (Shelly), Tony (Janay), Brady, Nick, (Kirk); and step-great-grandchildren, Kale, Hazel, Winsday (Tony), and Millie (Tricia).



He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and sister, Nancy (Nan) Kovach.



A Celebration of Life Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Rd., South Bend, IN 46635, with Rev. Ken Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Union Center Cemetery, Nappanee, IN. Visitation will be held 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 28 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
