Leonard R. Sieradzki, 70, of Dover Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 8:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with emphysema. Leonard was born on June 10. 1932, in South Bend, and resided his life in the Michiana area. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Rita Sieradzki.

On May 11, 1957, in South Bend. he married the former Shirley A. Radecki, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Sharon L. Sieradzki of Sarasota, Fla., and Michelle W. (Steve) Ware of Mishawaka, Ind.; two sons, Jeffrey J. (Nita) Sieradzki of South Bend and Michael S. (Carla) Sieradzki of South Bend; and seven loving grandchildren whom he loved and cherished; two sisters, Geraldine (Ray) Goethals of Jackson, Tenn., and Barbara J. (Denny) Isaacs of St. Louis, Mo.; three brothers. Raymond (Teresa) Sieradzki South Bend, Richard V. (Mary) Sieradzki and Robert V. (Katherine) Sieradzki, both of Granger, Ind.; and by a special brother-in-law. Edward Siderits of Sebring, Fla.

Leonard retired in 1992 from the South Bend Police Department after 30 years of active duty and five years as a civilian employee.

He was a United States Marine veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was so proud of his military service and of being a marine. He was also a loving husband, father and grandfather who spoke often of his loving family. He will not only be missed by his family, he will be missed by all who knew him. Leonard was not only a good Christian man, he was a good friend to many.

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Mathew, with Rev. Michael Heintz officiating. Entombment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.

The family request, in lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the American Lung Association or to the Ronald McDonald's Home, in care of Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Leonard was a member of the South Bend Police FOP Lodge 36, American Legion Post 303, and the Cathedral of St. Matthew. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled the arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Sieradzki family.
