As a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mardelle was dedicated to family. She was always smiling. There were never any words left unspoken, as she was very open and expressive with all. She continually encouraged her family to live up to their potential. She enjoyed vacationing with her family, whether it was camping in a camper or traveling with her husband by train to California. Mardelle particularly enjoyed hosting family and guests for the holidays, especially Christmas.

Mardelle collected Madame Alexander dolls, toys, paper dolls, and Barbies. She enjoyed going to doll shows and buying/selling on eBay. Mardelle was a very organized person, who enjoyed documenting everything. In addition to her doll collections, she had a fondness for all animals.
