FORMERLY OF SOUTH BEND - Betty J. Whiting, 86, residing in Avon, IN; formerly of South Bend, passed away early Monday morning, April 19, 2021 at IU West Hospital in Avon.

She was born November 1, 1934 in Niles, MI, a daughter of the late Stanley Andrew & Esther Lucille (Rhoades) Mitchell. On April 25, 1953 in Niles, MI Betty was united in marriage to Harold E. Whiting. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage until his passing on May 22, 2017. Betty was also preceded in death by her brother Dale and his wife Betty Ann Mitchell, two grandsons, Patrick and John Zacha, and her son-in-law, David Zacha.

Betty will be greatly missed by her loving family. She is survived by her daughter Linda Zacha of Fort Worth, TX; her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Jill Whiting of Coatesville, IN; grandchildren, Stephen Forsberg, Michelle Zacha, Jennifer Zacha, great-grandchildren, Cassia Randolph, Draycen Zacha all of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Douglas & Megan (Goad) Whiting, Nicole (Whiting) & Alex Harcourt, and Rob & Holly Burman; great-grandchildren, Priscila Whiting, Jethro Whiting, Rockwood Harcourt, Dexter Harcourt, Kenna Burman, and Linley Burman all of the Indianapolis area; Kathy (Burman) and Patrick Smith, and great-grandchildren, Linda Hayden, and Carolyne Smith all of Columbus, GA.

Betty was a 1951 graduate of Central High School and retired as a bus driver for the South Bend Community School Corp., and was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church. Betty and Harold enjoyed many years of Notre Dame Women's sporting events and traveling together.

Memorial services for Betty will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2021 at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61770 Miami Road, South Bend. Rev. Craig Clapper will officiate.
