Shirley Ann (Fortin) Burks

Shirley Ann Burks, 69, residing on Adams Road, Granger, Ind., passed away following an illness at 11:15 a.m.Wednesday, July 23, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind. She was born Oct.14, 1933, in South Bend, as the daughter of Gilbert and Crystal (Wheeler) Fortin, and had remained a lifelong resident of this area.Mrs.Burks was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel and Patrick.

On Oct.9, 1954, in Calvary Temple Church, South Bend, she married Richard L.Burks. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Richard;her two daughters, Sarah VanDeVeire of South Bend and Kay Burks of Granger; a grandson, Chris VanDeVeire;and by her sister, Sandra Wiseman of Schaumburg, Ill.

Mrs.Burks was a member of Bible Way Baptist Church, South Bend, and Royal Neighbors.She was a former employee of the South Bend Community School Corporation, food services depart- ment.She enjoyed camping and growing flowers.Most of all, her family meant all the world to her.

Services for Mrs.Burks will be at 2 p.m.today, July 25, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S.Michigan St., South Bend.Pastor Mark Hostetler will officiate.Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family received friends from 2 to 8 p.m.Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, and there will also be visitation from one hour before services today in the funeral home.
