NOTRE DAME - Thomas R. Cassady passed away peacefully on July 18th with Lenore, his wife of 66 years, by his side. Tom was born in South Bend on October 8, 1928, to the late Dr. J.V. Cassady and Bell (Randolph) Cassady. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. John R. Cassady, and his sister, Mary Nordberg.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore (Tucker); and his four children: Linda (Gregg) Brasseur of Benton Harbor MI, Bruce (Judy) Cassady of Edwardsburg MI, Tom (Barbara) Cassady Jr. of South Bend, IN, and Amy (Tom) Holdeman of Midland, MI; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Tom graduated from South Bend Central High School and Wabash College. He served in the Unites States Army during the Korean War. Tom made his career in the insurance industry and served as the President of Cassady Neeser Brasseur for over 30 years until his retirement in 1997. Tom was known for his discipline, his integrity and for being a true gentleman. He was the past president of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Indiana and served on many national carrier advisory councils.

Tom was very civic-minded and dedicated to serving the community and his church. He proudly served as the Chair of the Boards of the YMCA, United Way of St. Joseph County, Community Foundation of St. Joe County, Holy Cross Village Foundation; served as a Brother for Trinity School at Greenlawn, the President of the Eagle Lake Improvement Association and the Commodore of the Eagle Lake Yacht Club; and he received the Father Jack Hickey Award from Dismas House for outstanding support to individuals returning from incarceration. He was a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where he served as a Lay-Eucharist minister and as the Senior Warden several times.

Tom will always be remembered for the love of his family, especially his grandchildren, and for his dedication to fitness and sports. Tom was an avid snow skier, tennis player, golfer, basketball player, sailor and runner. He completed 8 marathons and many other running races. Tom cherished spending summers at Eagle Lake and spent decades racing sailboats, in particular the Scow class, and was instrumental in the formation of the MC fleet.



We are especially greatly for the care provided by staff of the Quinn Memory Care facility at Holy Cross Village and The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

Visitation will be held at the Welshiemer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, July 21st. Funeral services will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Chur ch, 53720 North Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 22nd.
