SOUTH BEND - Daniel Anthony Thornton, 71, passed away on Sunday, February 17, in Kindred Hospital in Mishawaka. Dan was born on February 20, 1941, in South Bend, as the son of Russell H. and Margaret K. (Dorschner) Thornton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Ann Marie, and a brother, David Thornton.
On August 4, 1962, in Sacred Heart Church in South Bend, he married the former Jackie Coddens. Surviving are his loving wife of over 50 years, Jackie; three daughters, Patricia (Michael) Felty of Osceola, Sue (Ken) Brothers of South Bend and Lori (Aaron) Flory of Mishawaka; a son, Jon (Kathy) Thornton of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Paul, Phillip, Carrie, Andy, Nick, Leah, Tyler, Emily and Bradley; two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Gabriel, with a third great-granddaughter due in June of this year; and a brother, Thomas Thornton of Osceola.
Dan was a Telecommunications Analyst for E.D.S. He retired in 2002. Dan was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, and was a past member of the BK Club in Mishawaka.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 20, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Bavo Catholic Church on Thursday, February 21, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544; or to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Indiana Chapter, 941 E. 86th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240-1842.
