SOUTH BEND - Judith Ann "Judy" Welde, 66, of South Bend, IN passed away at 1:10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2007, in her home after an extended illness. She was born on June 8, 1941, in South Bend, to Peter and Christina (Collum) Dinges and was a lifetime resident.

On July 21, 1973, in South Bend, she married Daniel L. Welde, who survives. Along with her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Karey L. Welde of Mishawaka; her mother, Christina Dinges of Mishawaka; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Donna Dinges of Granger; one nephew, Michael (Diana) Dinges; two nieces, Michele (Blaine) Beehler and Brandy Dinges; and one great-nephew, Cayden Beehler.

Judy was a 1959 graduate of South Bend Central High School.

She worked for 17 years as a secretary at Bendix Corporation before retiring to be a stay-at-home mom upon the birth of her daughter. Later she went on to work part-time in the gift shop at the Studebaker National Museum until 2006. She was a very giving person including, over the years, volunteering her time to many local organizations. She was heavily involved in the St. Joseph County 4-H program for over 20 years. She served as the Clay Township 4-H Coordinator, Advisory Board President and crocheting leader for many years and greatly enjoyed teaching kids how to crochet. She also enjoyed helping her daughter with the American Cancer Society Daffodil Day fundraiser each year.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and staff at Michiana Hematology and Oncology, the 6th floor of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where she was a frequent visitor, and the Center for Hospice and Pallative Care of St. Joseph County for all their help and compassion over the last three and a half years.

Judy's family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, in Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, with a memorial service to be held at 3 p.m. Judy will be buried in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Contributions in her name may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
