SOUTH BEND Evelyne D. (Thomas) Alford, 79 years old, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011, at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born January 17, 1932, in South Bend, IN, to the late David Thomas Sr. and Dora (Ballentine) Thomas. Evelyne was united in marriage in 1962 in South Bend, IN, to Clyde Lee Alford, who survives.

They have 3 adult children, Stephanie Denise Thomas, Clyde Christopher Alford and Leslie Evelyne Alford. Evelyne is survived by a brother, David Thomas Jr. of San Francisco, CA; sister, Lucille Thomas of South Bend; 5 sisters-inlaw, Ruth Thomas of South Bend, Delores SledgeCampbell (William) of South Bend, Joan Baber of Lancaster, CA, Dorothy Vaughn of Los Angeles, CA, Janice Marable of South Bend; and 1 brother-in-law, Bishop Donald L. Alford (Mary) of South Bend. In addition, Evelyne is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, 'adopted' children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Dora (Ballentine) Thomas Sr.; brother, Albert Russell Thomas; and 3 sisters, Ann Brown, Ethel Mae Milton and Juanita Thomas.

Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Greater Progressive Baptist Church, 2215 John Street, Fort Wayne, IN, with calling 1 hour prior, and 12:00 pm Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Olivet AME Church, 719 N. Notre Dame Avenue, South Bend, IN, with calling prior. Alford's Mortuary of South Bend will handle all arrangements
