Richard R. Royce, 74, of Brick Road, South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Friday, August 1 9, 2005, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Richard was born on February 16, 1931, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Lester and Gladys (Howell) Royce, and was a lifelong area resident.

On May 3, 1952, he married Gloria J. Tobolski, who survives. Along with his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his daughter, Janice (Patrick) O'Toole of Granger, Indiana; two sons, Jeffrey Royce of Flower Mound, Texas, and D. Harrison Royce of Carmel, Indiana; three grandchildren, Conor O'Toole, Colin O'Toole and Cairenn O'Toole; a sister, Elsie Britton of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a brother, Larry (Marjorie) Royce of South Bend.

Mr. Royce worked at Torrington for 31 years and then the Hoosier Spring Company for 11 years, retiring from there on March 31, 1996. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a volunteer firefighter for German Township in the 1960s.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Monday, August 22, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Funeral services for Richard will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 535 W.
